Rick sings at the 2006 LIEBHERR World Team Table Tennis Championships in Bremen, Germany

 

 

On May the 1st 2006 Rick sang his song “Straight For The Top” at the closing ceremony of the LIEBHERR World Team Table Tennis Championships, a song which he specially wrote for this event!

Together with his friends Norbert Beschke and Andreas Koch, both Berlin natives as well as table-tennis players, the idea to write a very special table-tennis song came up as early as June 2004.

“But great events take some time for preparation”, says Rick and adds “also we wanted to be the first entry for the competition for the official song”. When it was finally selected as the official jingle and for the official closing ceremony, everybody was very happy, especially Rick who says: “I’m going to show Bremen and its guests a good time!”

 

The words of the song capture the exciting moments of the best player just before the final game and before the last tie which will decide about the next world champion. “I tried to capture in words what makes this moment so exciting”, says Rick, “and in a sense it is much like the moments before going on stage as a singer. I think sportsmen and singers have a lot in common there.” Here are some impressions from Rick’s show as well as a link to the original song „Straight For The Top“ and a 10 second Jingle of the song, both as an mp3 in reduced quality.
